Obituary for my Uncle Ted
Ted Patterson, of Camden, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Patterson Sr., was born June 21, 1924, and died March 19, 2009, at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Pate Patterson; son, Bill and his wife, the former Dawn Glover; daughter, Jo Marie and her husband, William Wannamaker; three granddaughters, Pate Wannamaker Neal (Richie) of Simpsonville, Erin and Anna Patterson; two great-grandchildren, Tripp and Sarah Neal; sister, Dot Segars of Orlando, Fla.; brothers, Bobby of Houston, Texas, and Pat of Lugoff. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Pondie.
He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Baulknight.
Mr. Patterson attended Newberry College until the beginning of World War II where he was a Sherman tank driver. He opened DeKalb Body Shop in 1959 where he went daily until his health began to fail. Mr. Patterson was past president of the S.C. Garage Owners Association, past chaplain and lifetime member of James Leroy Belk American Legion Post No. 17, member of VFW No. 5928, and former board member of the Kershaw County Vocational Center. Mr. Patterson was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.
