week 15 and 16

Well we have finished WWI (yeah) and have moved into the roaring 20's. I am focusing on the history notebook pages because I haved some questions on how we do our notebook pages. So here are some samples

This is done by my 12yo son who really enjoys studying the icons of each era, especially any cartoons or political cartoons of the time. Geez no wonder he will end up one day being the cartoon artist I am fully convinced.

This is a graph of how many people died during WWI compared to how many died of the 1918 Flu Epidemic. IT was the first time any of them did so they got lots of help.
This is my 12yo notebook sheet by notebookpages.com.

This is my 13yo dd notebook on fads of the 20's she loves doing this kind of thing following the fashions of each era. It is a girl thing.

This is my dd's page on 2 of the 1920's presidents that we have studied we have not gotten to Hoover yet but will this week.

This is my 10yo same fashions of the 1920's notebook page, can you tell it is a boy?

This is his page on icons of the 1920's Felix the Cat

Our other work, I have been focusing on showing our history work because I have been getting so many questions lately about how we do our TOG work. But we do other work and here is a couple of samples.

This is my 13yo dd's math she really struggled with fractions but since moving onto decimals and percents she is doing great! I pray that it has finally started to click with her because she really struggled.

My 12yo geography notebook page it is on Mobile Alabama we are using Trail Guide to American Geography and I really like it, they don't care for the work but what kid does!

This is my 10yo notebook page on Florida, notice the drawings on the bottom, thanks to our cable company (East Pudunk Cable)our service is not realiable and he had to draw instead of printing out pictures.

This little bugger was in our garage this morning and was still there this afternoon when we got back from co-op. The thing moved and flung my dh in front of me, it is very huge and scary as spiders go!

Week 14 in Review

Hawaii project were due this week each kid had to find out some information(varied with the age of the kid) and they all made a travel brochure. Here are some pictures:

Here is our History, we are learning about World War I and had a great discussion today. I am learning a lot. Let's just hope by the time they graduate from highschool they will know more than I did about WWI, honestly would not be hard they already know all I knew before I started studying it this year.

This is the rest of the stuff. I introduced Sudoku to my oldest two for logic and they are loving it. We also started doing geography notebook pages in addition to our daily drills. Math is coming along great, oldest is doing great in ZETA. We also have some science experiment for co-op we are working on it is our break week. For some reason I posted very little of my youngest work this week, he was here and had great week I don't know why I took only a couple pictures of his week.

And finally a picture of our safety officer/crossing gaurd/keeper of the evil cat, she is enjoying her chewy and only had it for a couple of minutes before the other dog stole it from her, his favorite thing to do. She is our little ole lady in a dauschund body, she takes nothing from no one! She likes to make sure we stay quiet and work or she will howl, its her way of saying,"shut up you noise family!"

Week in Review- week 13

This is our week in Review we started studying WWI, my oldest dd started her new math book and we finished our first unit in CQLA. We are 13 week in and boy do I need a break but we still have 35 days until fall break. OHH well we are taking today off and will work on Friday instead of taking it off (we are normally at co-op but it is break week).

Menu Monday

Monday- Tacos (dh asked for this on Sat. we had had them 2 days before)
Tuesday-breakfast
Wednesday(dh first day of work)-Chicken fajita freezer thing (premade thing)
Thursday-sloppy joes and I will eat a baked potato
Friday- MOVIE NIGHT popcorn and homemade pizza
Saturday- grilled chicken
Sunday-whatever dh wants :)

Plans for our week

Well this week we are still studying World War I we are focusing on propaganda and studying what that is and looking at examples. We will continue with our regular studies, last week we finished our first unit with CQLA and their writing is coming along. I am so pleased with it, the checklist challenge at the back of each week really helps their writing so much.

This week is our off week of co-op YEAH! It is my favorite week. Now don't get me wrong we love co-op and love teaching at co-op but I do love the break. Next semester we get two break weeks because of Good Friday, what a great bonus!!! Next semester will be stressful because we are going to be moving again, but it is for the best with dh's new job he will have to commute an 1 to 1.5 hour. So honestly it is not fair to live out here he even has to go in during snow and ice storms, and you know us Texans freak out when a snow flurry falls and worse yet it affects our driving ability! Also it would help to bring down our bills if we can lower our rent payment and if we move we can lower by about $400-$500 and that would help a lot! Plus the savings in gas!

My dh starts his new job this week he works Wednesday-Sunday, he works 12 hour shifts and luckily so you figure in the commute time and he will be gone anywhere from 14-15 hours a day! WOW but because he works 12 hour shifts he has 3 days off, it is going to take us all awhile to get use to it. We have been busy grocery shopping and preparing since we only have one car still we are kinda stuck out in middle of nowhere while he is gone. So if someone gets sick I want to be prepared, and so I made sure to have all the common fixes in the houses (you know puke supplies, tylenol, cold medicine).

I will be posting my weekly report for week 13 later today or tonight, we have had busy weekend!

Our week Oct.1-7th

This week we are going to be studying World War I, yep do you see the deer caught in headlights look, I don't think I studied that in public school(it doesn't stand out in my memory). But I find myself teaching about it this week. WE also are going to be watching an IMAX video of Hawaii, to help with our Hawaii projects due next week.
My oldest will be finishing up the fractions book finally, yep I know I have been saying that for 2 week but we got a little off track with the dog dying and life! We will be spending some time looking for some bugs for ds insect project that is due in November for his Co-op General Science class. We also are going to meet my parents for some clothes for the boys (YEAH really needed) this should keep them clothed for the rest of the year, we now need to find some long sleeves shirts for my dd!
This is the midpoint week for co-op so we will have a break next week! I so need it! Hope you all have a great week!
